Potato Please has no fail state, so a walkthrough is not a list of ways to survive. It is a map of the objectives: what the game asks for next, what it unlocks, and which purchases belong to which act. The spine is one pile of 60,000 potatoes, a quest journal, a storm, and a train.
The six acts at a glance
| Act | Objective | What unlocks | Buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Warm-up | Finish the warm-up shift | Warmed Up; the real quota | Nothing |
| 2. Manual quota | Peel, rank up, learn the cut | Ranks, first shop stock | Knife, carry capacity |
| 3. Quest chain | Work through the journal (24 steps) | Machines, cableway, crane, upgrades | Whatever the current quest feeds |
| 4. Storm | Thaw the frozen pile | Flamethrower; cleared yard | Channel speed if the inlet jams |
| 5. The last potato | Reach 100% | The key potato objective | Finishing pass, not new machines |
| 6. The levers | Find the key, open the iron door, take the train | The three endings | Nothing — save first |
Objectives and act names are ours. The 24-step journal, rank 1–21 and the key/iron door sequence are community-documented from in-game screenshots.
Act 1 — the warm-up
The opening shift teaches the cut: pick up, peel, water. Do not spend money here and do not restart if a potato comes out ugly. The only thing that matters is finishing, which unlocks Warmed Up and starts the real quota.
Act 2 — the manual quota
The HUD now shows 60,000 potatoes as a percentage and a raw count. Rank is a separate track with its own experience bar, and it climbs as you work; the cap is rank 21. Your first purchases are the knife and carry capacity, in that order, because they shorten every potato and every walk.
Act 3 — the quest chain
The journal is the real story spine. Community screenshots show a 24-step quest counter, with rewards paid in P and the shop stock unlocking as the chain advances. The final page is Master Peeler (24/24), which 1.0.2 fixed to complete with its reward once the quota is done.
- Read every quest page when it appears. The objective text names the exact machine or action the game wants next.
- Do not buy ahead of the chain. A machine you cannot feed yet is a decoration, and the quest that teaches feeding may be two steps away.
- Rank and money are separate. Spending P does not slow your rank, and ranking up does not refill your wallet.
The quest chain is also where the narrative lives: Pavel’s letters, the Resistance notes hidden in potatoes, the Director’s Questions, and the people of Varenka. Those choices are tracked for the missable ending, so read the letters page before you answer the first one.
Act 4 — the storm
A blizzard freezes the yard and snow gets inside. The game gives you a flamethrower to thaw the pile, and the objective becomes Thaw every frozen potato. The storm is scripted, not random; 1.0.2 fixed it appearing early on pre-storm saves.
Act 5 — the last potato
At 100% the game does not roll credits. The objective changes to Find the potato with the key. The key is inside a potato in the pile; pick it up by hand. On 1.0.2 the vacuum and the puppy can no longer carry it off, which was a real way to lose it before the patch.
This is the moment to stop buying machines. Any remaining money is better spent on the finishing pass and on keeping the channel clear. The pile is a countdown now, not a production problem.
Act 6 — the iron door and the levers
The key opens a vault-style iron door. Behind it is the train cab with three levers: Northern Front, Western Industry and Varenka. Make a manual save before you touch one. From that save you can see every ending without replaying the shift.
If you are stuck
| Symptom | What to try |
|---|---|
| Quota counter frozen | Check peel quality, then the channel inlet |
| Machine idle with potatoes outside | Feed the hopper; check the outlet for a jam |
| Quest not completing | Read the objective text; 1.0.2 fixed Master Peeler completing without reward |
| Thaw objective stuck | Community fix: a second run, thaw only after the objective appears |
| Key potato missing | Update to 1.0.2; it now waits for you instead of being vacuumed or carried off |
| Can’t find the train | The key opens the iron door; the door is the route, not a puzzle |
